Organizational Strategies

Organizational strategies refer to strategies that facilitate and make possible the implementation or development of a repository in an organization.

They are closely related to organizational management processes to prepare for innovation. Among these strategies to ensure quality at the LOR organizational level, the following points give an idea of what can be done at the organizational level :

  • Ensure adequate technical and organizational infrastructures to avoid technical obstacles and decide the limitations of the LOR.
  • Identify the Repository’s goal and objectives in order to limit and clarify intentions
  • Identify stakeholders to specify needs, roles and responsibilities
  • Adopt policies on Intellectual property and Digital Management of Rights.
  • Specify metadata profile or schema and provide guidelines to alleviate ambuiguities about interoperability
  • Plan training of quality assurance strategies for contributors to increase reuse
  • Ensure Management support through communication channels, such as Newsgroups, Newsletter, Events calendar, etc. to keep all stakeholders informed

In the Q4R Repository you will find resources dealing with this issue and in the Best Practices Wiki you will find how our partners have implemented these kind of strategies.

Principles:

  • Ensure support from all stakeholders
  • Create Communities of Practice for each main category of LOR actors
    • LOR Manager
    • LO Author or Designer  (culturally sensitive)
    • LO Metadata Indexer
    • LO End-user
  • Offer training adapted to satisfy the specific needs of each actor group
